At least no earlier than say 8:45. One of the most infuriating barriers for me in high school was morning. Because morning started so early, I was not as efficient as I could be during my most productive time of the day, late morning and early afternoon. Often times in high school I slept in because I was a teenager (period.) and would stay up late watching television or whatever. This created stress for me too, because my parents and teachers would be upset with me. But it wasn't my fault! It was mornings fault. And this is something that affects every young student that has to wake up before 8:30..
The most productive time of the day for me is around 10:30 most days, and I'm not alone here. I just googled, "most productive time of the day", and the first site that came up gave me the time 10:26am as the most productive time (along with sometime after 4, which I'm too lazy to go search up). Here's the site: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/the-hot-button/when-is-the-least-productive-time-of-day-new-study-pinpoints-the-hour-and-minute/article12429712/
This link also states that the least productive time of the day is at 2:55. Maybe this is because of lack of sleep.. Of course these are just numbers and I don't know the type of the research went into this, but I'm pretty sure I'm onto something here.
I'm 19 years old, and I was a victim of sleep deprivation in my first year (like every other human being in university, or life). Because of the program I was in, I was forced to take 8am classes every day. I'm not complaining, (wait, yes I am..) I understand that people have busy lives and a schedule needs to be maintained. Yet, I still believe that if my classes started later I would have been a more productive student that semester. And what I mean by more productive is less stressed. Of course I can survive 8am classes, and I did. But the early mornings put a lot of stress on me! Again, I understand that in university students are expected to be mature, and able survive early mornings. But why in the world are we expecting this from elementary and middle schoolers! Most of them can't even focus in class anyways because they're thinking about their crush or video games or food or something. Opposed to thinking about sex or drugs or food or something in university. When sleep deprivation adds to those distractions there is simply too much wasted time. Aren't the most important years of development happening at the ages of elementary and high schoolers? Of course you can argue that they're being prepared for the difficult mornings in university, (you can never just be a cooperative reader can you?) so I propose to you.. (and this is an incredulous idea) what if University classes could be scheduled whenever students freaking wanted in the morning? What if students could actually build their own schedule that meets their own needs? Oh wait, they can.
If you are a morning person, I envy you. (And stop judging me!) You are an amazing breed of human, and should teach your ways to everyone. Yet, we all know that you're too lazy to do that anyways so I'll move on here.. (I can make that joke because we all really know there are no such things as morning people) Therefore, I remain at the conclusion that younger students should be able to have a later morning than adults. What do you think? I think that the pros outweigh the cons here.
